Custom Orders, Bulk Orders & DTF Transfers: Plain-Spoken Answers for Small Shops

So instead of making you dig through a contact form, here are the plain-spoken answers to the custom order, bulk order and DTF transfer questions I get asked most. Boos and ghouls, let's get into it.

Custom Orders: How Do They Actually Work?

Custom orders are my favorite kind of chaos. You bring the idea, I help you get it onto something wearable, and we both pretend we always knew exactly what we were doing.

What can I put a custom design on?

Think of the whole spooky-cute lineup: tees, tanks, baseball tees and tote bags. If you have seen it in the shop, like the Caffeinated & Regenerated Frankenstein tank top or the Caffeinated & Regenerated tote bag, that is the kind of blank canvas we are working with. Your design, your words, your weird little mascot - it does not have to look like anything already on the site.

Can I use my own artwork?

Yes. Send what you have, even if it is a phone photo of a sketch on a napkin. The most useful things to include are:

·        Your design file or image, in whatever form you have it

·        Where you want it placed (full front, left chest, back, sleeve)

·        Your color preferences and any colors you want avoided

·        The sizes and quantities you are thinking about

·        Your deadline, if you have one

More detail up front means fewer back-and-forth emails, and fewer emails means we get to the fun part faster.

What if I only want one?

One is fine. Custom does not mean "bulk only." A single custom tee for a birthday, a bachelorette, a team of two, or just because you had an idea at 11pm is a completely valid order.

How long does a custom order take?

It depends on the design, the blanks and how busy the season is. Halloween season gets busy around here, as you can imagine. Send your details with your ideal date and I will tell you honestly what is realistic instead of promising something I cannot deliver.

Bulk Orders: What Small Shops Ask First

Bulk orders are where small shops live or die, so let's be practical about it.

What counts as a bulk order?

If you are ordering multiples of one design, whether that is 12 for your market booth or 100 for your team, that is a bulk order. You do not need a special code or a secret handshake. Just tell me the quantity and I will treat it like the volume order it is.

How do I get pricing for a larger run?

Ask. That is genuinely the whole answer. Per-piece pricing changes with quantity, design complexity and the garment you pick, so a real quote beats a guess every time. Send me:

·        The design, or a description of it

·        The garment and color you want

·        The size breakdown (how many smalls, mediums, larges, and so on)

·        Your total quantity

·        When you need it in hand

What is the size breakdown thing about?

This trips up almost every first-time bulk order. If you order "50 shirts" without saying how many of each size, someone has to guess, and guessing is how you end up with 30 extra smalls and no larges. Give me the split and your run ships the way you actually need it.

Can I resell what I order?

That is the entire point for a lot of my customers. Small shops order blanks with their own designs, then sell them at markets, online or to their own communities. If you are building a shop around it, say so - it helps me understand what you need and keeps the whole thing smooth.

What if I want custom designs and bulk in the same order?

Extremely common, and completely fine. Plenty of shops start with a custom design, love it, then come back for 40 more once it sells. Put it all in one message and we will sort it out together. DTF Transfers: A Friendly Starter Guide

DTF stands for direct-to-film, and if you have ever wanted to press your own designs at home or in your shop, this is the shortcut you have been looking for.

What exactly is a DTF transfer?

A DTF transfer is your design printed onto a special film. You press it onto a garment with heat, peel the film away, and your design is left behind on the fabric. No screens, no setup fees, no ordering 50 of something to make it worth it. You get a transfer, you get a heat press, and you get to work.

Who are DTF transfers for?

They are for the person who wants control. If you:

·        Make shirts on demand instead of holding inventory

·        Want to press designs onto multiple garment types and colors

·        Sell at markets and need to restock fast

·        Are testing a design before committing to a big run

...then transfers are probably your friend. They are also a great fit if you want to offer several designs without stocking several finished shirts.

How do I apply a DTF transfer?

With heat, pressure and a little patience. Follow the application instructions that come with your transfers, since the right temperature and time depend on the film and the fabric you are pressing onto. A few universal tips:

·        Press on a firm, flat surface - a squishy ironing board steals your pressure

·        Pre-press the garment first to steam out wrinkles and moisture

·        Let the transfer cool the amount the instructions call for before peeling

·        Test on one garment before you run through your whole stack

Do I need an expensive setup?

You need a heat press and a design. Home setups and small shop setups both work. Start with the basics, learn your press, and upgrade when your order volume tells you to.

What designs work best as transfers?
